SHAKERS!!

Every town has its Shakers, the oh-so trendy cocktail bar where everyone wants to be seen:

from the check-out girls to the chinless wonders, from the yuppies to the local lads tittering at the thought of a Long Slow Comfortable Screw. We are given a wickedly funny glimpse of this world by the four long-suffering waitresses, offering a fascinating view of the reality that lurks behind the plastic palms and Pina Coladas in this ever popular play.

PORTISHEAD PLAYERS - NEED PEOPLE TO AUDITION!!

The next show will be "SHAKERS" by John Godber & Jane Thornton

Performances will be the 15th to 17th October 2009 and the club are

now looking for 4 talented actresses ( Age range for actresses - 18 to mid 30's please!) to perform at the Somerset Hall.

Auditions: Tues 14th July 7.30pm at the United Reformed Church Hall &

Thurs 16th July 7.30pm at the Methodist Hall, Queen's Road.

Character Info: The waitresses themselves encompass different realities and aspirations.

Adele is the single mother who loathes but needs her job; Carol is a wannabe photographer who hates being labelled as the dumb waitress; the sarcastic and catty Mel who, in her quest for a husband, hides a dark secret; and Nicky who is the envy of the other girls for breaking free from the bar to dance on a cruise ship.

Interested - contact the show Director: Jason  jase_stevens@yahoo.co.uk   for further information or  visit the Portishead Players website: www.portishead-players.org.uk

Interested?

We will be reading the text in places but, because of the demands of the play I will be asking those who turn up to the workshop some of the characters they will be possibly performing. Remember, they can play up to 6 characters each and they won't have costume and make up changes to achieve this - it will all be down to performance.

Rehearsals: Aug 24,26,28,31

Sep 2,4,7,9,11,14,16,18,21,

23,25,28,30. Oct 2,5,7,9.

Music around the Lake

The musical entertainment was a free concert which was in support of the

 Royal British Legion.

Music around the Lake

Sunday 28th June saw a wonderful musical display at the Lake Grounds. It featured Tim Pitman who is an Opera singer and vocal entertainer.

The weather meant that the audience enjoyed hours of music in the sunshine sitting in the deck chairs and sharing a picnic.

Thousands of locals support & enjoy a huge turnout of Carnival floats

Another successful Carnival for Portishead, organised by Jemma & Wendy. Thousands of people lined the Lake Grounds & High Street to see the many floats wind their way toward the Showground. The colour, music and enthusiasm on the floats made an enjoyable day for everyone.

The Carnival is one of the towns events which brings the community together. Old & young can enjoy the same activities with everyone working together to make the day a spectacular event.
