Poolside Help Needed Portishead Swimming Club is a non- competitive club, meeting on Monday evenings during school term time. It has been in existence for many years with members swimming at Backwell and Shirehampton in winter then Portishead Open Air in the summer, before Parish Wharf Leisure Centre was built. The main aim of the club is to teach swimming and encourage participation in other aspects of the sport. If members have speed or other talents they are able to be referred to other clubs as needed. At this time the club are looking for Level 2 or 1 teachers to join their volunteer workforce. The Amateur Swimming Association require you to be CRB tested, which the club can organise for you. Parents who have been competitive swimmers or water-polo players could perhaps help on poolside occasionally to refresh their skills. If you can help please contact aadamson@sky.com or berniehinchliffe@talktalk.net

Avoid the rogues. Trading Standards say don't deal with doorstep traders.
Ask friends or relatives to recommend reputable local traders. |
'Scam Wise Southwest' is a campaign by Trading Standards in South West England to help stop people being conned by rogue traders. 'They're just out to get your money. Don't fall for it!' Door Step Sales - protect yourself! - don't open the door to strangers - use a spy-hole or window to check who is calling - use password schemes offered by utility companies and councils - if you're expecting a caller by appointment, use your door chain & check their identification - don't have work done by someone coming uninvited to your door Telephone Scams - say 'no thank you' and hang up if: - the company phones you out of the blue - you're asked to part with money in advance - they use high pressure sales tactics to confuse you Postal Scams - tear it up & recycle if the letter contains: - addresses that are PO Boxes, suite numbers or based abroad - a request to send money - a request for your bank account details. Report it to your bank. - an instruction to call a telephone number beginning 09
If you think you have been a victim of a scam, contact Trading Standards and Consumer Direct, telephone 08454 040506 or log on to www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
