PORTISHEAD
FUTURE |
Portishead is in a prime position for its development to continue. Not only does its location suit commuters but the Port Marine development now means that its leisure and tourism business can improve and expand. The currently planned new housing will expand the population to well over 20000 and due to the prime location this can only increase with time. With the increase in traffic relating to new housing and firms being attracted to the town it is inevitable that the transport infrastructure will improve to accomodate this. The A369 out of town to the M5 and Bristol sees a high level of traffic at peak times. There is a local bus service and planned a Park & Ride, and of course there is still the opportunity of re opening the rail link. Some improvements will have to be made, but in the meantime changes to the road layout at the junction with The Cabstand and Wyndham are due to start in May 2004 and also the heavy traffic for the Marina will be able to take the route off Wyndham Way down Quays Avenue and Harbour Road when the new road is opened in May also. With around 2000 homes being built in and around the old dock area there will be the improvement in local facilities such as shops, school and facilities for the community. Green areas are planned in with the houses and paved areas linked in with the existing footpaths to the town, woodlands and coastal paths. The Port Marine housing is to be a mixture of size and design, from modern to fishing village styles. There will be sizes from 2 to 7 story around the water with other detatched houses located around the site. There will be a selection of shops and cafes for visitors which will complement the Marina as a visitor attraction along with its vast array of yachts. |
